About

Ralf Scherer is a contemporary photographer. His work is created in public space and focuses on human presence within everyday urban environments.

His practice is grounded in observation rather than narration. Working intuitively and in close proximity, Scherer approaches photography as an attentive encounter with fleeting moments, subtle gestures and transient situations. Each image is conceived as an autonomous photograph, shaped by presence, timing and restraint.

The ongoing body of work 35STREET forms the core of his current practice. The title refers to a fixed focal length and to the street as a place of encounter — not as a subject, but as a point of departure. The photographs do not follow a predefined theme or linear structure. Instead, they present fragments of urban life that resist explanation and invite open, individual readings.

Earlier works include the series TIMELINES, which explored aging and different phases of life through single, self-contained images.

Scherer lives and works in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. His work has been shown in exhibitions and is regularly published online and in print.
